Horror Movies to Watch for Halloween This Year

Here’s a list of horror movies everyone should see.

The Exorcist (1973) directed by William Friedkin has become a true classic in the world of horror films. The film is based on the novel by William Peter Blatty. The plot is a story of a girl Regan, with whom strange and frightening things begin. The girl’s mother, the famous actress Chris MacNeil, hires doctors who are trying to cure her daughter of strange manifestations of power. After the mysterious death of Burke Dennings, a friend of Chris, who fell out of the window of Regan’s bedroom, the mother decides to call the help of the only exorcist in the world, father Lancaster. He agrees to help, but then he faces unimaginable difficulties. The film stars such actors as Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow, Linda Blair and Lee J. Cobb. The film has truly become a classic of the genre and is the scariest film in the world, so if you haven’t seen it yet, you know what to do.

The next horror movie everyone should see is Poltergeist (1982). The film was directed by Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, 1974) and written by Steven Spielberg. The action of the picture unfolds in a new house, where the Freeling family moved to. At first, no one believes in ghosts, but more and more often mysterious things begin to happen in the house: the TV works by itself, the toys disappear, the lights turn off. When both children of the Freeling go missing, the parents seek help from paranormal researchers led by Dr. Lesh. The film stars Craig T. Nelson, JoBeth Williams, Beatrice Straight, and Dominique Dunne.

The Lighthouse (2019) directed by Robert Eggers went unnoticed by many viewers. The film about the otherworldly, the transcendental and the crazy world, so it can be attributed to the list of horror films. The plot is an interpretation of the real tragedy of 1801 called The Smalls Lighthouse Tragedy, in which two Welsh lighthouse keepers are trapped in a station during a storm. The story of the film begins with the fact that a former lumberjack is hired as an assistant to an old lighthouse keeper who lives on a deserted island. An intolerable old man tests the patience of a new worker, who begins to have nightmares, paranoia and insane visions. The time of the film takes place in 1890, it was filmed on 35 mm black and white film Double-X 5222. The result was a film in the 1.19: 1 format. Also, the film is filled with constant play with shadows and overloaded sound. It creates an atmosphere of surreal purgatory, where the protagonists will be in an endless struggle with each other and their sins. The leading roles were played by the world-famous Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson. The claustrophobic blackand-white The Lighthouse received an Oscar nomination -2020 for Best Cinematography.

The next film will appeal to fans of zombie movies.

Train to Busan (2016) is the first film directed by Yeon Sang-ho, before that he directed only cartoons. It is an incredibly successful South Korean film that brought new emotions to zombie lovers. In the center of the plot is a father and daughter who are on a train, which has penetrated a deadly virus. It is transmitted through blood, and gradually the passengers are trapped. The film stars Gong Yoo, Ma Dong-seok, Jung Yumi, Kim Su-an, Kim Euisung, Choi Woo-shik. Train to Busan was the first of the millions of dollars in Singapore’s box office. Due to such a resounding success, in 2020 a new part of the continuation of the story called Peninsula was released.
