Nowadays, I receive the majority of my news (current events, beauty trends, etc.) intake via social media. Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, you name it. Through perusing my Instagram, the skincare brand, “The Ordinary” has peeked my interest. As I age, I am learning about different serums, moisturizers and face oils to keep my complexion up to par.
I’ve come to the conclusion that most cult favorite brands such as “Drunk Elephant” and “Sunday Riley” are inflated to 3 times their price value. Although these two brands have effective and luxurious products that actually have outstanding results, they do cost a pretty penny. Enter “The Ordinary” to save the day.
A hyaluronic acid for $6.80? Check. A lactic acid peel for $7.20? Check. People want a bang for their buck. Not only is The Ordinary affordable but consumers have raved about the effectiveness of their products.
In regard to The Ordinary’s hyaluronic acid, Sephora app user hailey702 said, “GAME CHANGER. I’m prone to eczema on my face and this product has worked wonders on me; moreover, I’ve been using this product morning and night for the last month now, and my face has never been this hydrated.”
This innovating brand does not sell their products in China. The Ordinary promises to be cruelty free and proudly has the “cruelty free” bunny logo printed on their products. China has a policy that requires that all beauty products (makeup, skincare, haircare, etc..) that are sold in their country need to be tested on animals. MAC Cosmetics unfortunately chooses to test on animals and forgets their integrity, clearly caring more about profit margins.
According to The Ordinary, they are an evolving collection of treatments offering familiar, effective clinical technologies positioned to raise pricing and communication integrity in skincare. The brand was created to celebrate integrity in its most humble and true form.
I would say that this brand is also great for the sensitive skin types and individuals who are looking to stay clear of hazardous ingredients. This company’s products are free of parabens, sulphates, mineral oil, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, animal oils, coal tar dyes, formaldehyde, mercury, oxybenzone. The majority of The Ordinary’s products are also vegan.
Being a college student, I am not able to afford $60 creams filled with collagen and retinoids. Most skincare experts will even suggest layering products (toner, moisturizer, serum, face oil). I am still discovering what works best for my combination type skin.
You MUST pay attention to what your skin type is. You may have dry, oily, or combination skin. Having dewy, moisturized skin and wanting to upkeep a youthful complexion while fighting off pesky adult acne are my top priorities. Since discovering The Ordinary, I am able to test out a myriad of their products due to its affordability and excellent quality of their range of products.
Have I discovered the fountain of youth? Quite possibly.. But don’t tell Juan Ponce de Leon that. It shall be our little secret. Products from this brand can be purchased at Sephora, Beautylish or theordinary.com among other sites as well.
