When the New Year’s ball dropped, some people wrote resolutions, while others wrote their predictions for the 2025 award season. The start of 2025 is an exciting time for entertainment fans everywhere, but often, keeping up with all the award shows can get overwhelming. For a quick and convenient overview, read below for a breakdown of some of the New Year’s biggest award shows.

Golden Globes:

Only 5 days into The New Year saw the 82nd annual Golden Globes Awards. This ceremony honored both shows and movies. Many use the winning films as a guide to who can be predicted to get nominated for and even win an Oscar. The host of this year’s Golden Globes was comedian Nikki Glaser, marking her first time hosting the ceremony.
As much of a hit her jokes were, her outfits left the most jaws dropped with constant changes between segments.

The big winner of the night for films was Emilia Pérez, a musical winning four out of their ten nominations. Closely behind was the drama, The Brutalist, taking home three awards. When it comes to shows, the leader was Shogun with four awards, winning in each of their nominated categories.

Grammys:

If films and shows aren’t your thing, then music might be. The 67th annual Grammy Awards will premiere on Feb. 2 this year.

The Grammy nominees were announced back in November. The list featured Beyoncé in the lead with 11 nominations, finalizing her as the most nominated artist in Grammy history. Other featured artists include Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, Chappell Roan, and Taylor Swift.

BAFTAs:

Taking a break from all the Hollywood buzz, the 78th annual EE British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) will take place in London on Feb. 16. Feb. 18. The BAFTAs are often known as the “British Oscars” and like the Golden Globes, are hints for who may win the Oscars.

Edward Berger’s Conclave led the nominations with 12, followed by Emilia Pérez with 11 and The Brutalist with 9.

Oscars:

Every cinephile’s favorite film event will take place on March 2. This year’s Oscars will be hosted by television host and comedian Conan O’Brien. Stay tuned for Jan. 23 when nominees are announced.

While the Oscars may conclude the most-anticipated award shows for television and film, the fun isn’t over just yet. For the musical fans out there, the Tony Awards take place on June 8.
