During last month on Broward College’s Central Campus, students gathered to look for Sammy the Seahawk at Sammy’s scavenger hunt, which included many clues, and a fun treat at the end.

Sammy’s scavenger hunt was like a little excursion. It gave students the opportunity to explore campus, challenged students’ critical thinking skills while solving the clues, and gave students the opportunity to socialize with other students they may have never met before.

Sabrina Bell, the coordinator of Student Life on Central and the event organizer, speaks on the purpose of the event. “The purpose of the event is to give the students an outlet, where if they have a rough week of class, it’s something to do while on campus, maybe they didn’t want to go home, but there is an activity for them to engage in and to meet new people, have fun.”

She also said, “as a whole, as Broward College, we value students’ opinions so when students give feedback, we use that for student events such as what would they want to see on campus, things they would want to engage in, stuff like that.” Seeing how much fun the students were having, and everyone engaging in conversation, students’ opinions were taken into consideration.

Most of the students came because they were able to tour the campus while looking for the mascot Sammy the Seahawk. “It’s a little fun thing to do while we walk around campus and get comfortable because this is my first year here, so it helps me get a little more comfortable with campus and it’s just fun and helps with like the vlogging idea,” said Joel Casarez, a first-year student at BC.

Students also liked that the event looked interesting. “It looked fun, and it looked interesting,” said Ryan Kelly, a graphic design major at BC.

At the scavenger hunt, the students really loved being able to find and figure out the clues.” I love easter egg hunts and any type of like trail, so I find it fun that we get to take pictures or look at the clues and then figure it out and try to go to the next clue. So, I kind of like that and then the reward is finding the next clue until you possibly get to the end. So, I enjoy that,” said Alexio Henfield, who is getting his Associate of Science for Aviation and Maintenance.

Another student also enjoyed discovering the clues. “I liked finding the clues because they’re like all sneaky around,” said Ishmael Sanchez, a cybersecurity major at BC.

Sammy The Seahawk’s Scavenger Hunt was a great activity that allowed students to see many different parts of the campus, socialize with many different people, and got students to think about and figure out clues.

If you were one of the many students who enjoyed this event, remember Student Life always has events going on and values your opinion.

So, check out the calendar and see what events you might want to go to.
