Navigating Through My BC Portal- Student Lingo

When browsing my BC portal, you might feel overwhelmed or confused by all the options available. I understand it can be a little intimidating, but don’t worry—I’m here! Navigating the platform is much easier on a computer, but if you’re using a phone, switch to landscape mode. It can make things more user-friendly and helpful.

Let’s talk about the free resources available—yes, FREE! One of the most valuable resources you’ll find is Student Lingo, located at the bottom of the page My BC. To access it, all you need is your institutional email to register and create a password. Once you’re signed up, a world of opportunities and learning experiences will be at your fingertips.

Student Lingo offers more than just learning resources. It also provides everyone with access to scholarship opportunities. You’ll find workshops, engaging learning activities, and tools to help you succeed. The best part? These workshops are short and time-efficient, lasting no more than 30 minutes. With over 30 workshops available, there’s something for everyone.

The Student Lingo library is filled with valuable content across various categories. In the Academic and Career Exploration section, you’ll find workshops on maximizing your college experience and understanding what it takes to be a successful student.

The Learning to Learn section offers workshops focused on planning, exam and study tips, academic integrity, and strategies for reducing anxiety and handling failure. For those engaged in online learning, there’s a workshop dedicated to providing ten tips for success in your online courses.

The Personal Management category is packed with useful topics, including achieving well-being, balancing and setting realistic goals, and stress management techniques. There’s also a Reading and Writing Strategies section that focuses on comprehension strategies.

Beyond these, you’ll also find additional workshops in areas like AI (ChatGPT) Tutorials, which cover the ethical and responsible use of generative AI, using AI as an academic tool, and creating resumes and cover letters.

The Adulting 101 workshops help you develop life skills, such as building habits, seeking personal growth, developing resiliency, forming rewarding relationships, and managing time effectively to achieve career and personal goals.

Meanwhile, SLNow offers an extensive selection of workshops on topics like making the best of online textbooks, building the life you want, managing stress,
building confidence, acing
finals, coping with loneliness, and planning for life after graduation.
