Broward College is back for the spring semester, and that means a new semester of events and activities held by Student Life. Student Life is focused on holistic development, which means they look at all aspects of the wellbeing of students when planning their events. Their events and programs cover 6 main learning themes: leadership, inclusion, service, wellness, explore, and engagement. Using this as a background, Student Life set their goals for the semester. The club has set 3 key goals for the semester.

Student Life’s first goal this semester is to increase cultural awareness through Heritage Month offerings. “We will host a variety of in person and virtual events in collaboration with faculty and staff from across the college to celebrate Black History Month in February and Women’s History Month in March,” Lauren Adamo, Director of Student Life at Central Campus said. Some upcoming events in February include an African Dancers event and a Black History Month movie on Central Campus. There will be events held on all campuses celebrating Heritage Months through various events and programs.

Another goal for Student Life this semester is to help students feel welcome and engage students on campus. “We want to increase student’s ‘sense of belonging’ through engaging events and activities this semester,” Adamo said. The organization is holding welcome weeks on North, South, and Central campus with events such as Club Rush, where students can discover clubs on campus, and the Resource Fair, where students can connect with college resources and services. Student Life is hosting events and activities throughout the semester, so make sure to check their calendar all semester long to find events that might pique your interest.

Student Life’s last goal for the semester is to increase student leadership skills through their Certified Leader program. “We’re really excited to see how many students take advantage of the Certified Leader program. Students will learn soft skills that are not being taught in the classroom and are highly desired by employees,’ Adamo said.

The program provides key opportunities for students to learn key leadership skills and prepare for future opportunities. Some of the benefits include students building and enhancing their resumes, attending professional development workshops and conferences, and students building and expanding their professional network. The program is available on all campuses, and if you want information email studentlife@brroward.edu.
