BC Women’s Soccer Dominates Against Polk State to advance in playoffs

“When you win 5-1, it’s pretty hard to complain,” said Head Coach of the Women’s Soccer Team, Olaf Henke after the game against Polk State on Monday night. BC’s lady Seahawks came out on top with a dominating performance, especially in the second half.

The match remained scoreless until the 5th minute after freshman Payton Jenkins scored a free kick from outside the box, then 20 minutes later the second goal came from freshman Lucianna Scoppetta. The first half seemed a little rough as the team wasn’t moving as much as they needed to off the ball. The players seemed a bit more reactive rather than proactive but that soon changed coming out of the half up 2-1.

The second half seemed to have a different energy in the atmosphere in favor of BC. The team came out firing on all cylinders. Very clinical in the counter-attacks using them wisely and not letting those opportunities pass them by. The lady Seahawks were converting much more on the chances they were given. As a final goal scored by freshman Morgan Newman on a well-executed assist, Scoppetta put a seal to the game for the Seahawks to put them up 5-1.

The team controlled the ball much better in the second half, having Polk State try to keep up with their pace. Seahawks came out playing quality football on all ends of the field. They were on the attack most of it while the defenders were keeping everything away from the box and keeping Polk State in check with any type of counter-attack attempted by them.

“Happy with the second half, happy with the performance in the second half,” Coach Olaf said. “Overall I think good performance by the girls.”

The team moves on to play Eastern Florida State Thursday, Oct. 31, whose record stands at 10-0. Eastern seems to be the team running away with all the wins this season. Eastern has quantity in their roster with 28 active players but BC seems to have the quality in their players that can get them in the winners’ circle for this matchup.

Seahawks have to come off sharp right out of the gate. “We just have to play smarter, we have good footballers,” Coach Olaf said.

The lady Seahawks hope to come out on top against EFS on Thursday to then advance to the championship game on Saturday against the winner of ASA Miami and Daytona State.
