Broward College was named one of the top three colleges in the nation.

The Aspen Institute recognized BC as a Finalist-with-Distinction and awarded a $100,000 prize to the college. Indian River State College in Fort Pierce was also named a Finalist-with-Distinction and received $100,000. The top winner of the afternoon was Lake Area Technical Institute from South Dakota, which takes home $600,000.

Students had the opportunity to watch the ceremony live during several watch parties on all BC’s campuses a few months ago.

This is the second time that BC made it to the Top 10 finalists for the Aspen Institute award, but this is the first time they won.

The Aspen Prize recognizes the achievements of community colleges in the nation in the areas of student learning; certificate and degree completion; employment and earnings; and student success, according to the Aspen Institute.

“Broward College is preparing a diverse student population, making sure they graduate, and assuring that they are ready for the next step in their lives,” said Joshua Wyner, Executive Director of the Aspen Institute’s College Excellence Program.

For BC, this recognition reassures that the college is on the right path when it comes to guaranteeing student success.

“Everyone in our Broward College community is responsible for this award,” said J. David Armstrong Jr., BC’s President. “I encourage all of you to celebrate; this is your win.”

Congratulations to all BC’s students, faculty, staff, administrative team and community partners that work hard everyday to make this college one of the top in the country. Go Seahawks!
